Area hiking around Lizard provides incredible vantage points for spotting the area’s diverse raptors like falcons, hawks, and eagles riding the thermal currents.

Just gazing upon its distinctive outline from nearly any vantage point in town and you’ll understand why it holds such an iconic status. For the members of the Concerned Citizens of Cumberland, protecting Lizard is about much more than just preserving a landmark. It represents safeguarding our community’s heart and soul – our indivisible link to the magnificence of nature that defines life in this special place.

We take pride in Lizard’s presence keeping watch over the community, just as it has for innumerable sunrises and sunsets across the centuries. Those raised on its rugged, untamed slopes carry the seeds of its power, independence and solitude within us.
