The WA State Legislature PASSED a new bill ESHB-1791,

a LAW that put the Enumclaw Plateau

BACK ON THE TABLE

as a preferred Airport Greenfield Site!

As of April 20th 2023, the WA State Legislature has passed a new law ESHB-1791, which will establish a new Commercial Aviation WORK GROUP to replace the CACC. Under this new law, the Work Group will be fully allowed to consider recommending a Greenfield Site in the Enumclaw Plateau! The new law will exclude consideration of study of existing airports such as SeaTac, Boeing Field and McChord airfield. The solution to the aviation capacity problem could very well lie in the optimization of SeaTac to passenger only service and converting McChord to a joint Military-Civilian Cargo facility (in combination with expansion of Paine, Yakima and Spokane airports and improved rail service).

This combination to OPTIMIZE Passenger and Cargo service at EXISTING AIRPORTS could ELIMINATE the need for GREENFIELD SITES

The option to consider EXISTING AIRPORTS must be available to defend The Enumclaw Plateau’s future! However, study of this concept will be prohibited under the new law. We still have a few days to take ACTION! Send emails to Appeal to Governor Inslee to:

TO: Governor Inslee,

Concerned Citizens urge you take immediate Executive Action and

 VETO ESHB-1791 – Section 3.3 to allow

CONSIDERATION of ALL EXISTING AIRPORTS in the WORK GROUP STUDY

ESHB-1791 is BIASED toward Special Interests Groups. The intent of the bill is to fairly and “comprehensively” study the need for increased commercial aviation and cargo services.

Consideration of ALL EXISTING AIRPORTS is essential and must not be subject to exclusion by special interests. The language in Section 3.3, to legally prohibit consideration of SeaTac and McChord airfield, is in direct conflict with the bill’s stated purpose of a comprehensive and inclusive study of ALL possible solutions. Therefore, we urge you to immediately VETO ESHB-1791 Section 3.3 as follows:

3(3) The work group shall not consider:
(a) Expansion opportunities for a port or county run airport located in a county with a population of 2,000,000 or more; or
(b) The expansion of an existing airport or the siting of a new airport that would be incompatible with the operations of a military installation.

SeaTac Airport capacity is the root of the problem, therefore logically should be included in the solution. Consideration of ALL existing airports allows study of optimizing SeaTac for “passenger only” service, and converting McChord airfield to a joint Military and Civilian Cargo facility.

The Commercial Aviation Work Group must be allowed to fairly evaluate All possibilities, NO EXCLUSIONSA potential solution to the aviation capacity problem is only possible if you VETO Section 3.3 to allow CONSIDERATION OF ALL EXISTING AIRPORTS IN THE WORK GROUP STUDY. Citizens deserve a fair and UNBIASED SOLUTION to the Aviation Capacity Problem.

Sincerely,
